There are relatively few people I know that don’t need their boost of caffeine in the morning to get themselves going. I know I do. For some, it’s coffee in one of its many variants, be it black, with cream and sugar, something from Starbucks, or whatever. For others, there are healthier things they do, like taking an ice cold shower first thing or going out and running—y’all be crazy, you know that? Going out and actually wanting to run before the sun comes up😲. Then there are those, and I include myself in this group, that have their energy drinks. There are a myriad of them. Monster, Red Bull, NOS, Full Throttle, Redline, Rockstar, Bang, and many others that are niche varieties or ones I’ve just never heard of, or I just can’t remember off the top of my head.

Just what is caffeine? It’s in many things, like the aforementioned drinks, soda, chocolate and some medicines, like weight-loss pills, migraine medicine, NōDōz and the like.

Caffeine is a stimulant, which is what gives people the kick in the ass they need to get moving. Unfortunately, combined with sugar and everything else, once the caffeine wears out, the person crashes, their energy level diminishes and they become sluggish again. The solution? Another dose of caffeine. It just becomes a vicious circle until they try to go to sleep, but then can’t because they’re wired on caffeine. Caffeine in moderation is not bad for you. It becomes bad when you have too much. It is estimated about 150mg/kg of body weight in one day would kill a person. So, someone who weighs 100 kg (220 lbs) would have to ingest 15000 mg (15 grams) of caffeine in one day. Or, at 300mg a pop for Bang energy drinks, that’s 50 cans in one day. I’m sure your heart would be racing after the third or fourth can, much less the fiftieth. You’d have to be chugging one can every 20 minutes or so to achieve this feat. And it would cost you like $100 for all those Bangs (at the average 2/$4). I have a lot better things to do with $100 than try to obtain death by caffeine! So, if chocolate contains caffeine, could there actually be such a thing as death by chocolate🤔?
